Dealing, or beginning to deal with the files at home is making realize that I need to deal with my files here – sloppy and disconnected. I’m yawning now just at the thought of organizing my piles of paper her, probably because I can’t do it in the way I like to at home: sitting on the floor, lying down, wandering around and generally looking foolish while I pick away at the problem.

Going through the boxes of loose documents I did yesterday was shocking, because it meant that I ran across documents from just about any time from the last twenty years or so – in some cases longer. I found absurd letters from ex lovers, grant applications, meeting minutes from The Bergenfield Bears Lodge, copies of the zine “Thrift Score”, performance scripts, and many receipts. As I was doing it I was talking to my mother about her inability to get my aunt to deal with her piles of stuff. So now I can see how far it can go. I found notes for projects that I never executed, drawings people had given me, loan agreements and many announcements for shows. By not dealing with this stuff, I was cutting my self off from acheivements as well as committments. I realize that email has killed the postcard, something I loved getting and sending. I have a much stronger impression of the texture of my life, but experienced through random jumpcuts. I suppose the next phase is to put it in some sort of chronology. I wonder what that will reveal…

Lost in space….

By dint of much application and supportive encouragement from badfaggot, my living room is clearer than it ever has been, and I think that all of my files are finally in the same place. Five bags full of paper wait on my landing for Wednesday’s garbage pickup. Excuse me while I go stare at the expanse in wonder for a while.

Less and less….

As part of my current cultural agoraphobia I’ve noticed something: less TV (a total of 2 1/2 hours of broadcast and 4 hours of DVD watched in the past two weeks) leads to me listening to more music. Aside from the speaker problem I talkd about a while ago, I’m now finding that for the most part the music I own is too busy. The things I’ve found most thrilling recently have been classical chamber music, especially solo instrumentals. Of course this is one of the areas that my cd colection is weak in. So I’m soliciting suggestions: anyone have solo instrumental recordings that they love? I guess that jazz soloists would also be ok – but that’s stuff that I have a pretty good sense of.

Art films??? Nudies!

with 11 comments

This evening I did something I haven’t done for quite a while: paid my $12 and sat in a basement on Spring street, for three hours of open figure drawing.

Let’s just say I’m rusty.

There was something eerie and conspiritorial about the nine of us hunched over clunky drawing tables, trying to look at the model and get something down on paper. Silence except for the piercing peep of the timer to let everyone know when to take a break. Something odd too about ten new eorkers who chose to spend their Saturday evening doing this. I’m betting I was the only non regular, but then you never know.
