Empty headed me: I told so many people that my flight arrived at 1pm, I started to think that my flight left at 1pm. So while I groggily puttered around the house this morning, my brain was slow to reconcile the fact that the times didn’t match. Suddenly at 8am a sinking feeling seized me as it came into focus that I had three fewer hours than I thought I did: I flew to the computer to check my reservation and saw that my plane was leaving at 9:45am. I was unshowered, unpacked, unfed, Lehigh was unwalked. I got her down stairs for a quick one, fed her and started throwing stuff in the first suitcase I could find. By 8:30 I was out of my house, despairing and then fortune struck, I found a car service driver who cannily manuvered the surface roads between my house and Kennedy Airport in just over 25 minutes. I made the plane and am now safely ensconced in the home of friends. God bless automated check in.
