…”Life sucks, but the coffee's okay.”

My current cup of coffee tastes like bilge. But I'm not too upset. Kind of liking it in fact. This month my diet is mostly vegetarian with occasional meat days, like yesterday, when I went to the Noho Star and had their short rib salad, which seems like a contradiction in terms, but is really fabulous: frisee greens and arugala, grape tomatoes, crumbled soft goat cheese, sliced avocado topped with a two inch cube of warm shortrib that has been cut into eight slices and covered with a rich glaze, which serves as a dressing as well. Luxurious unctuousness and slightly bitter, clarifying greens. Bad and good at the same time.

The goal is to feel better, and to make sure that my blood sugar and other levels are where they should be. As always, the side effect of eating more vegetables and less sugar is that I feel, er, friskier. If your behind gets swatted, blame it on the broccoli.
