A thoughtful, caring man.
A friend of deepest loyalty.
Mentor, gourmand, gleeful corrupter.

The world’s a better place with you in it.

Happy Birthday,

Why so big..?

Given that typing in all capitals is the online version of shouting, why do today’s keyboards have such large, prominently placed caps lock keys? I understand that the qwerty layout has remained standard even though it isn’t the most efficient, but is it really the trained touch typists who are keeping that key where it is, in the place (next to the “a”) where it is so very likely to be struck by hamfisted oafs like myself?

When was the last time that you really needed the caps lock key? Couldn’t it be banished to the “F1” line, or at least shrunk?

New experiment: let’s see what happens if I stop putting any thing of import into these posts.

Do I need a new keyboard for my home desktop? I’ve been using the new apple one at work and have fallen in love with its shiny low profile-ness. Of course I’m entertaining the illusion that new home keyboard will make me all super productive and expressive. We all know the truth of that, don’t we kiddies?

It ended up being a quiet, non-socializing type of weekend, which was a relief in the main. One batch of friends was whooping it up at Dore Alley, another was whooping it up at an event in Colorado. I got about two thirds of my overdue laundry done, and unpacked from camp. There’s little in the way of ingredients in the house, but I couldn’t get a grocery shopping done. Lehigh seems a little beat down by the heat.

This morning’s dream involved my anger at an uncouth little girl in an airport who had smeared cake in my camera bag and then refused to apologize. A lot of my dreams have involved packing, travel and relocating lately.

It looks like I’m getting to the point where I can use an assistant again. There’s a few too many projects percolating around for me to handle on my own.

Sunday rundown…

Thunderstorms all day, while I read. The television stayed off for the most part. As did the air conditionr, which I’ve been running far too much. As I look around my bed room this morning I can see how much the clutter has built up.

Under piles, I find books I’ve started, CDs I mean to listen to, DVDs unwatched. There’s dusting to be done. And plants to water. Mail to dispose of. And the daily task of this journal. Everything that gets abandoned when one of the areas of my life gets too hectic.

Reflection gets set aside too, at least the organized reflection on the page. It always takes a while to pick it back up again. I’m back at the place that I’ve seen so many people on here come to: the place of not knowing what this activity, this document is for. So often for me it’s simply a gesture in search of some recognition. And after that, what? It’s easy enough to stop, easy enough to tell myself that there is some thing else I need to get back on track with it.

There has been a long time where posting pictures has been pretty much all that I could do here. Place holders for the writing, or simply another way of reflecting on things, of seizing the daily?

Lots of cultural consumption lately:

Last Friday I made myself almost miss my London flight because I decided I could fin it a cheap matinee of The Dark Night. has written an incisive review you should check out. On the whole I was held for the duration. People would have lauded Ledger’s performance even if he hadn’t kicked, myself included. Watching him I thought: the Joker probably smells really bad too. he also had a bit of a Sandra Berhardt thing going on in the hospital scene.
